Baby Wilson’s Nursery Reveal

It feels like just yesterday I was singing ‘whoooooa we’re halfway there’…and now we really are here! Baby W is due this week! Hallelujah! Truly a rollercoaster of emotions meeting this milestone of week 40. I am beyond grateful for my body growing and carrying this little miracle for as long as it has, but I’m also so anxious for the 4th trimester of postpartum recovery. And honestly, 100% over being pregnant. Watching your body, your marriage, your day to day lifestyle all change over the course of 40 weeks is no easy task. And to think this is only the beginning.

One of the biggest, and more fun, changes we’ve encountered over the past 40 weeks – transforming our 3rd bedroom into Baby Wilson’s Nursery! These 4 walls have seen it all. When we first bought our home, we slept on the floor of this bedroom while we installed new flooring in our master. During quarantine, this room was our home gym and I sweat ALL over that yucky carpet before ripping it out. We blessed the cement foundation of this room when we installed our floors, writing Jeremiah 29:11 “for I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you; plans to give you a hope and a future”.

Now this room is easily my favorite in the entire house. Cue the hormonal mom tears, as I relish in the meaning of that bible verse and dream about Baby Wilson joining our family in just a matter of days.

But enough about me and my emotions…lets get to it!

This blank wall above the crib will serve a purpose soon, I promise! As we are waiting to find out baby’s gender, we can’t purchase any personalized items for Baby yet! Above their crib will hang a natural canvas flag with their name on it. We’ve narrowed it down to 1 boy name and 1 girl name – both with the same gender-neutral middle name! But until we meet our little one, this wall will stay blank. Most likely an Etsy order I’ll be placing from the hospital 🙂

Things We Considered When Designing the Nursery

Gender Neutral

As mentioned above, Tay and I are waiting til birth to learn baby’s gender! This means a neutral color palate, and a relatively blank slate that we can add in more gender specific pops of color later. It’s driving my mom crazy seeing so much beige, cream and white in a baby’s room. She is just so ready for all the pink or all the blue come August 6th (or sometime around then!)

Fluid with our Existing Home Design

While I can appreciate a themed nursery, I really wanted Baby Wilson’s nursery to be an extension of our already existing home design. Bright whites, warm woods, creamy neutral tones. Some gold accents and faux foliage. Ultimately, this room will grow with Baby, and grow with our family in this home! By starting off with a room that already flows with the rest of the house, we’re setting ourselves up for success in the future keeping a home design that feels cohesive throughout.

High Performance Fabrics

We chose the Babyletto Toco Glider and Ottoman because of its high performance fabric. Similar to why we chose our white upholstered Burrow couch in the Living Room, we knew if we wanted a white/cream piece of furniture, it needed to withstand definitely possibilities of staining and high traffic. Babyletto’s Performance Cream fabric is water repellant and stain resistant. Life is messy! Finding a glider that was both stylish and durable was key when shopping for our nursery. Other fabrics in the room are white, washable, and bleach-safe!

Functional Organization

I want every last item in this nursery to be available in one arm’s reach, since my other arm will be busy holding an infant! I won’t have the patience, or time, to be rummaging through cluttered nonsense. Highly recommend the three items listed below to help organize your nursery items. The linen storage bins are in Baby Wilson’s closet. They currently hold larger sized clothes, various toys and books. The white cubes fit in our Ikea dresser to group together small, essential items for breastfeeding, diaper changes, and outfits. Lastly, the hyacinth baskets live in our hallway linen closet just outside the nursery. One for my postpartum supplies, one for baby’s first aid kit, and one for baby’s bath items.

Tay and I just cannot wait to live in this nursery once Baby Wilson arrives! Hopefully sooner than later. Mama is uncomfortable over here, and ready to exchange the discomforts of pregnancy for the discomforts of postpartum recovery. Designing this room with our little one in mind was such a special process, and we are so pleased with the current result. Little things to add over time, but ready for baby!
