We’re back in the US as of a week ago, after the busiest 2 week adventure in Italy! Taylor and I brought our 1 year old, Stella, all the way to Europe! I’m as surprised as you are haha. Luckily, we were traveling with my MIL and bro-in-law. Having some extra loving hands for our toddler was saving grace. Not to mention, sweet memories for Stella and her Noni. Stella’s age was perfect for this trip! With a year of parenting under our belts, we felt ready to take on this big adventure! In today’s post, I’ll be sharing the Best Way to See Capri in One Day.

Our trip started in Milan and Lake Como, then visited family in Northern Italy (specifically, Chiavari, Liguria). We gradually worked our way down the country. Later, we spent time in Cinque Terre, Florence, Tuscany, Amalfi Coast, and lastly, Roma. I wasn’t kidding when I said it was a busy two weeks! Among countless remarkable sights, my own personal highlight was our day trip to Capri! Those that know me, know I am all beachy/summer/sunshine. I’m a Leo! Naturally, falling in love with this little island off the coast of Sorrento came without surprise.
While planning our Italy trip, I read a few blogs about weekends in Capri versus just a day trip to Capri. As this was our first time to Italy, we chose to stay in iconic Positano. We allowed for a one day venture to Capri. In this blog post, I’ll share the Best Way to See Capri in one Day!
HOW WE BOOKED OUR TOUR
Through Trip Advisor, we booked a full-day Private Boat for our group. Here’s the exact tour we booked with Restart Boat. With our group of 5, it made more sense financially to book a private boat, instead of individual tickets for a larger, shared boat. We also toured Lake Como on a private boat, and I would never do it differently! After booking, Restart Boat connected our group with a driver and a captain.
The Driver picked us up at 9am at our hotel in Positano and drove us to a port in Sorrento, about 20 minutes away. If you’ve been to Positano, you know the steep hills and countless stairs it takes to get down to the main ferry port – another reason we loved having booked a private boat! Pickup directly from our hotel, and departure from a less populated port.
WHAT THE TOUR ENTAILED
Departing from Sorrento allowed for more views of the Amalfi Coastline on our way to Capri. It is so doable to see Capri in one day! We were so blessed to have very calm water that day. Our Captain narrated some of the coastline, and took us first to the famous Blue Grotto. Luckily, this grotto was open, thanks to the calm waters. Nor was it very populated, since we were visiting in October. The Blue Grotto truly lived up to the hype, and is 100% worth the stop if the waters and crowds are permitting.
We also stopped to swim in a sunny, tucked away spot off the coast of Capri as we got closer to the island. Our captain popped some Prosecco, and we took a dip in the Mediterranean Sea! From a girl who raaaarely swims in the ocean, what a rush! *cue my first hair wash in Italy*

With the sunshine, cool water, fresh bubbly, and good company, touring the perimeter of Capri in One Day was easily one of my favorite memories of the trip.
WHAT WE DID IN CAPRI
There are two main docking ports in Capri, one of which charges 100 euros to dock at. Our captain advised us toward the smaller of the two, Marina Piccola, where he made us reservations for lunch. We cheers’d aperol spritzes and devoured local seafood pasta at Ristorante Ciro, right on the water.
We then took a taxi up to the main town of Capri, which is really worth just about an hour or so of window shopping and walking. The best sights for Capri in One Day are out on the water!
During the afternoon, we toured other natural grottos, rock formations, and coastal arches. We watched the sun start to set through this famous arch before we headed back to Sorrento. All in all, our full day tour was roughly 9am to 6pm, hotel transportation, drinks, and beach towels included, cost under $200/person. In my personal opinion, I think our money and time was spent in the best place – a private boat tour on the water! Furthermore, we were able to see the entire coastline of Capri, while still allowing an appropriate amount of time to tour the main town center.

MY FINAL THOUGHTS ON CAPRI IN ONE DAY
In conclusion, my advice to any first-time Capri tourists would be to do exactly what we did – book a full day private boat tour! We certainly will be back to the Amalfi Coast area, and may consider spending some time in Anacapri, a hilltop town on the island of Capri. For now, I am savoring every last memory of our day trip to Capri, and truly feeling so grateful for experiencing what felt like the Best Way to See Capri in One Day!
