As a new mother of two, and someone who’s just entered her thirties, I thought it would be a fantastic idea to celebrate not just my own 30th birthday but also my daughter’s 2nd birthday in a big way. And what better way to do it than with a fabulous pink-themed Barbie Party? In this post, I’ll walk you through the steps and ideas for hosting a shared Barbie-themed birthday party that will leave everyone, young and old, absolutely enchanted.

Invitations that Set the Stage for our Barbie Party
To kick off this fantastic joint celebration, we started with the invitations. We went for a stylish, pink Barbie design that set the tone for the whole event. Personalizing the invitations to include both our names and ages gave it that unique touch. I designed our mobile invites through the Canva creator app, and sent them out using Paperless Post. I saved so much on printing and postage!

Decorations Fit for a Barbie Party Dreamland
Transforming our space into a Barbie dreamland was next on our list. We adorned our kitchen and dining room with Barbie-themed balloons, banners, and a pink and white color scheme. Pink truly exploded into our entire home and backyard. I loved the little pink bows that we attached to all our kitchen cabinet pulls. We even added a large white bounce castle for Stella and her preschool classmates that would attend. My little one couldn’t get enough of it!

*how cute are these Barbie boxes! they were just the shelf packaging for some Barbie dolls at Walmart, I asked the staff if I could grab the boxes for Free! I was stoked to take these home, as they were perfectly themed storage to display our plates and napkins.*
Dress Code for the Barbie Party
Encourage your guests to embrace the Barbie theme with their attire. Think pink dresses, tiaras, and maybe even a few Ken dolls in the mix. My daughter and I wore matching Barbie-themed outfits, and it was a blast! You can shop our affordable SHEIN and Amazon looks in the links below.

A Barbie Book to Remember
At each event we host, I love to incorporate a themed keepsake item for guests to sign. Whether that be a book, a photo, or a piece of clothing…its something for the guests of honor to keep for years commemorating the special occasion. For our Barbie party, I found this vintage Barbie book on Amazon, and had each guest write a birthday wish to Stella and I. I imagine years from now, Stella and I will love to look back through the beautiful book and read the messages from our loved ones.

A Sweet Treat Barbie Buffet
Our pink Barbie dessert board was such a showstopper. As this event was a Potluck, the entree and side dish items were taken care of. We served dessert in the form of a sweet treat buffet, of course, ALL PINK! I scoured every aisle of Walmart to load my cart with all the pink sweet treats and snacks I could find. Think pink wafer cookies, pink Oreos, pink drizzled popcorn, pink Pocky sticks, pink gum-balls, pink marshmallows, pink animal cookies, pink starbursts, pink jelly beans, even pink foil wrapped chocolates. I was shocked at how easy it was to create a color themed dessert buffet for our Barbie party!

This dessert buffet also doubled as a party favor for guests to take home from our Barbie Party. I displayed plastic pink-striped treat bags for guests to fill up and bring home to enjoy later.

Also on our island was the cocktail bar. We filled a glass drink dispenser with our favorite low-calorie pink lemonade from Trader Joe’s, and laid out several spirit options to spike it with! Lemonade is a pretty universal mixer, as it can pair well with whiskey, vodka, or tequila easily! We wanted to keep it simple, and friendly to kids and adults. Outside in a cooler, we had canned drinks like Barbie Swoon pink lemonade, and pink cans of Bubbly sparkling waters. Don’t forget your pink cups and pink striped straws!

Two Barbie Cakes
As dual birthday celebration would not be fit without TWO cakes, right!? I hit up my favorite local bakery, Cute Cakes, yet again for two smaller cakes. Cute Cakes has been our go-to for all cupcakes and event cake needs, and we’re never disappointed. My cake was a lighter pink frosting color, with a funfetti flavor inside. Stella’s was a darker pink frosting, with a strawberry cake inside. MORE PINK! I opted for very simple cakes, as I purchased our personalized cake toppers from Etsy. You can shop them here!

Themed Barbie Activities
Keep the little ones entertained with some Barbie-themed activities. We set up a tattoo station where the kiddos could use a pink sponge and water to adhere their own temporary Barbie tattoos. Stella’s arms were covered! For the adults, we set up a ‘Barbie Pong’ table with a pink gingham tablecloth, pink solo cups, and pink ping pong balls (essentially, just a beer pong table with a color theme). In the previously mentioned white castle bounce house, we had large pink beach balls to toss around. It was a hit for all ages!

A Toast to Thirty & A Tribute to Two
As the night drew to a close, we raised our glasses and lit the birthday candles to celebrate my 30th birthday and Stella’s 2nd. It was a heartwarming moment, surrounded by family and friends. A special moment I won’t ever forget getting to blow out candles and make birthday wishes alongside my little girl.
Thank You Cards
We asked that guests not bring any gifts, as their food contribution to the Potluck and their presence for our special day was plenty! But for those that did bring gifts, or help with setup, we mailed out formal Thank You’s. These pink ones from Amazon were such a classy way to express our gratitude.
The Ultimate Barbie Birthday
Hosting a shared Barbie-themed birthday party for my 30th and my daughter’s 2nd was a magical experience that we’ll cherish forever. It allowed us to celebrate life’s milestones together in a unique and memorable way. Remember, you’re never too old to embrace your inner child and share special moments with your loved ones.
I’m so glad I didn’t let the stress and fatigue of this current postpartum season stop me from creating a memorable evening with my family and friends. I even surprised myself pulling this off at 5 weeks Postpartum. Here’s to embracing every age with grace, style, and a touch of Barbie magic!
