Greek Mezze Platter: a Charcuterie Board with Mediterranean Flare

Is there a term for someone who’s weirdly obsessed with Greek culture? Like a Greek version of the word anglophile…’cuz it me. Greek food, Greek travel, Greek dancing/music – I’m a fan. My family grew up attending an annual Festival at a Greek Orthodox church near us, in honor of my late Aunt, who had passed away from breast cancer when I was young. While I loved the tribute to my sweet Aunt, over the years, I have grown so fondly of Greek culture and cuisine.

A few weeks ago, my sister hosted a dinner party for a small group of friends. We brainstormed meal ideas together, and settled on a Mediterranean chicken, and cucumber chopped salad. She had put me in charge of bringing a charcuterie board, thus creating this beautiful opportunity for a Greek Mezze Platter!

What is a Greek Mezze Platter?

In Greece, mezze or meze is an assortment of small plates, typically eaten as an appetizer. Similar to a charcuterie board, a mezze platter consists of various cheeses, fruits, veggies, breads – creating a savory, grazing board for guests before dinner. Knowing that my sis would be serving a Greek dinner, I knew a mezze board would coordinate perfectly!

What do I serve on a Greek Mezze Platter?

Here’s your shopping list!

  • Olives – kalamata or garlic stuffed, our favorite is linked below!
  • Feta Cheese – look for an entire block, not crumbles
  • Hummus – a…wait for it…ZERO CARB hummus linked below!
  • Pita Bread wedges
  • Stuffed Grape Leaves called dolmades (tricky to find, but so yummy!)
  • Concord grapes
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Cucumber slices
  • Fresh figs, halved
  • Olive tapenade
  • Chopped Walnuts
  • Artichoke Hearts
  • Roasted Red Peppers
  • Slices of citrus like lemon and grapefruit

Once you’ve assembled the components of your Greek Mezze Platter, style your board with sprigs of greenery, I used some from the olive trees in our backyard!
